If I could run green's ramping spells I'd probably run the best 6-8 and cut back on manafacts down to like 4-6, giving me 10-14 slots dedicated to ramping, which also ensures I'll have SOMETHING in almost every opening hand.įar Wanderings (double check this is the one w/ threshold) It depends on your build though, I need to get to 4-6 mana pronto, so I run more ramp than I probably need. Sculpting steel (I count it as ramp because I usually copy mana-facts) I play UB, and I run 38 lands and IIRC, 8 mana producing artifacts. Should these be run in lieu of land, or beside lands? If so, should I focus on basics for the base, and mana artifacts to supplement?Īlso, I may just end up getting the shocklands, seeing as they have taken something of a downturn. I see you have advocated a number of mana artifacts. I'm running red the least, and black the most, with each taking about 1/3rd, give or take, but my red is really intensive. I'm not running quite that many artifacts, which is pretty new for me. If you wanted to minimax I'd say do the following:įinish as budget allows, you might want to run the allied talismans from Mirrodin or get filter lands, etc. Whether you want to go crazy and buy ABU duals is up to you, but you can make up for a lack of ABU duals w/ multi-colored manafacts, and budget duals. You need 26 B, 19 G and 13 R that's 58 mana sources but you wanted to only run 42. Same scenario now you have 50 B, 36 G and 23 R. That's 35 mana sources, but you're probably running between 36 and 44. You'd need 16 reliable sources of black, 11 sources of green and 8 sources of red. Lets say, hypothetically you have 30 instances of B, 20 instances of G and 15 instances of R across 52 colored spells (color intensive and lots of gold). How many of green's ramping spells are you running? How many slots do you have for artifacts? What's your color distribution? what do you think the manabase should look like? I'm kinda leery of shelling out hardcore for the shocklands. It's got a lot of Black/green multicolor, and just monored for the red side. I've got the deck mostly built, but I'm finding that I need help with the mana base the most. Quote from GwafaHazidI'm building a Sek'Kuar EDH because I was interested in trying to use a general with red and no blue that had a cool ability.
